I’m Mik Hartman<\/b><\/h3>\n

Although I was born 45 years ago in Schiedam I have lived in Rotterdam for more than 20 years now.<\/p>\n

I can honestly tell you there were some tumultuous times. The basics of the rebuilding of Rotterdam was over but we weren\u2019t done by a long shot! In the \u201890s I lived in a city looking for an identity. The city had all it needed to keep it going but that was about all that could be said of it. However, it turned out that Rotterdam met all the ideal conditions for a city to reinvent itself. I saw the city grow into a place that architects designed modern buildings for. I saw new restaurants open, influenced by foreign cuisines from all over the world, I saw wine bars open and caf\u00e9\u2019s shoot out of the ground like toadstools. I was happy to see that old parts of the city regained appreciation and were restored.<\/p>\n

The city has truly arisen from the glowing embers and has so many amazing places ranging from hip to homely, from design to quirky that even I can still be surprised sometimes! All of this makes Rotterdam into a unique city in the Netherlands. A city that has literally rebuilt itself and had gusto, tries out new things, also pilot projects large and small but always tackling them full on.<\/p>\n
